Shortly after arriving in Colorado, Kerouac went in search
of a “rich thick milkshake at the roadhouse to put some freeze in my tormented
hot stomach. Incidentally a very beautiful gal shook me that cream.” Mother’s
milk, Milk of Magnesia, both soothe a sour tummy. And who better to deliver
Kerouac’s long-lost dream of a loving gaze, all smiles.
As I read this blog I wasn't sure what direction your title was going, but after reading it I was amused. As I read those lines in the book,I gazed passed them never really thinking to find an interpretation but your review really opened my eyes "mother's milk" idea. All this time I was trying to find an argument against how minute the women are projected but your observation makes complete sense. Women may not play a major role in the novel but they exist in the most obvious of places if one really dissected all of the factors. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. LOL
